Investment on Streets. Have you ever thought about it?
Well street vending is not the unsual topic to be discussed, some may have been bothered, some show sympathy, some are strict not to allow them and some people are considerate whatever is happening let that be. But we cannot ignore the fact that they have become one part of economy in our life. They are cheap and ready to use and people don't hesitate to buy them and can't regret even if damaged. Street economy has become our one part of life and fair street economy can revolutionize the whole system of the street vending throughout the country.
If we analyse the things then street vending has two facet, one is the traditional facet where the locals used to sell the vegetables in the morning and evening and one is the people who have shifted to the city area in search of job and have been engaged in street vending since then. So if we left out the traditional way then we can associate this as the basic principle of living. If nothing is good there is the road. So this is the case of many street vendors in Kathmandu and other rural cities of the country.
And in every developed country we can find street vendors, but having said so, the situation and quality of life is totally different. Infrastructures, safety, health, incentives, fair trade are some of the serious issues that comes along with vending business. Even in our country, the economy is fair enough in comparison to investment. Although the unorganized street vendors have been the window of perception for most of the people, if we watch out the transaction of the money then surely the window can see the rising sun. Inside the space of 10 meter of parking in valley there are transactons of about one lakh per month. Simple corn seller earns rupees two hundred profit making six thousand profits per month or even more. But the space in the streets are also vandalised to earn direct profit from it. Although its wrong but this is the clear hint of good economy. This make a very simple sense behind making a good street economy with good street behaviour, good management, tax system and so on. If this happens then this can surely result in a good fair street economy, thus revolutionizing the whole system of the street vending throughout the country.
Thats why we need investement on streets. Yes we need investment, a proper investment on the streets so that a whole geographical street vending can be manged properly and can generate a good revenue for the country. Thats why economy is better than no economy. Definitely, challenges are there and they are there in any sorts of economy, but why don't we put an effort to face and overcome these challenges in very smart way, so that there will be a sustainable economy produced from the streets. Private sector investment and involvement under the government mentorship could be one option that will obviously result in a fair competitive management in the streets and the society as a whole.
